ok, trying to post a second time! You said whatever your measurements for your front strips are is what you use for the back strip – that should be understood. I just LOVE this tutorial and it makes a great pattern. I am making blocks now and they are really pretty! Thanks so much for this video!

Love it! It was SO quick to make a bunch of blocks! This actually came at a time I was desperate. I had made a really great quilt for my husband and then when I went to buy the fabric for backing there wasn’t enough yardage. I made a whole set of these squares with remnants from the quilt front and pieced together a cute panel to join for the back. You saved this novice quilter! Thanks a million for the quick idea.

What kind of sewing machine do you recommend for piecing quilt tops?

    I am getting a lot …
I am getting a lot of feedback on my measurements…I am so not a math whiz. All I can say is that you need to measure the strips that you sew together and make your contrasting piece that width. That being said…you really should play with this. You can sew however many strips together that you want. Your strips can very in width also . This will change the block size but just take it and have fun with it.

    When you put them …
When you put them together as a double hour glass block, aren’t the outside edges of the block on the bias? (Just wondering if I’m visualizing correctly.)

Well blows my mind. I just sewed a bunch of strips together and darned if mine don’t measure 4 1/4″ too! Absolutely can’t figure out how that comes out that way! LOL

    That is true Jackie …
That is true Jackie. Your back fabric should be the exact width of your two strips sewn together. So your best bet is to sew any size strips together and measure the width. Then cut your width the size of your strips and sew down. Thanks for pointing this out. I am not sure how but I think mine measured out to 4.25??? Go figure! Ha Ha! I hope this helps and you have fun!

  • jackiejunque:

    2.5 sewn to a 2.5 …
2.5 sewn to a 2.5 with a quarter inch seam is 4.5. you said 4.25 which would throw it all off wouldn’t it?

this is fantastic, I wonder if you sewn more than 3 pieces together, what kind of look then would you get?
