This is a brief tutorial created for the contributors, authors, and editors of the blog/site hopculture.org. although it was specifically made for that site it gives a general idea of how to properly copy/paste text content from Microsoft Word into WordPress 2.7
Copying text from Microsoft Word into WordPress is a great way to be able to work on a blog post locally on your computer or while not connected to the Internet but pasting it into WordPress has its downsides. One of the most notable issues is that Word is a Rich Text edito and usually embeds formatting into it’s text. When you try to copy/paste into wordpress that Rich text formatting is usually carried into the post and this creates unncessary HTML formatting tags that may cause inconsistency in your blogs look and feel. Also if not properly done (I have experienced this) it may even take your blog offline due to “dirty code”
WordPress has created 2 WYSIWYG buttons to import text into your post. 1) from Microsoft Word 2) as plain text. In using the “paste from word” button is where our blog has gone offline and by researching a bit I noticed that it creates a media object (i.e flash) that for some reason WordPress hangs while loading the page (this may not happen to you, it’s a sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t error).
Never-the-less I always resort to using the “paste as plain text” button.
It has never let me down.

Enterprise content management (ECM) solutions have enabled organizations to more effectively manage information. Yet, the lack of an ECM standard has presented a huge challenge: How can content-enabled applications access and manage content among disparate systems?
To solve this problem, EMC, IBM, and Microsoft are joining forces to lead the drive for the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) standard for repository access. This new standard will offer organizations the flexibility they need to get more from their enterprise content management systems.
